Paterson, NJ February 1980
|
A fire in the Paterson Police Headquarters building using Hi-Ex foam to extinguish the stubborn basement blaze. These images were scanned from 35mm slides.
A quote received, regarding this fire:
"Police Headquarters fire. Starting Top Row left: #1. D/C Comer in front with foam operation that did not work #2. Truck 2, from Van Houten St. station, 1976 Pirsch (My company) #3. Engine 1, also from Van Houten St. Ladder. On right, The Seagrave- a little older but a great ladder truck. #4 D/C Comer again. #5. Foam Operation- they used an antique foam generator that was later scraped, took too many men to operate. #6. Nate Salmanowitz (deceased). #7. Ladder # 2, went to roof and cut many large holes. Too Late. #8. D/C Joe Pellegrino , Ed Banta on right (deceased) Jimmy Sanders (deceased) Otto Guzik (deceased) on left. #9. Squad Co. 1 Van Houten St. Manpower squad- 5 men with Scotts, closed shortly after this fire due to budget cuts. #10. More Ladder 2.
The fire was heavy in the basement and the ammunition was going off. They pumped foam in there but it was ineffective due to the many partitions and the fire eventually destroyed the whole basement and first floor." -Mike |
