Mulch Storage Area Fire

Hwy 23, Pequannock, NJ    September 21, 1997

A fire in a very large mulch storage pile resulted in response by mutual aid fire companies from throughout Morris County as well as Sections 2 and 5 of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Repeated ignitions over several years caused health concerns from smoke covering several towns, and required scores of responses by the Pequannock Fire Companies. An all out attack on this fire on September 27, 1997, and the resulting legal charges by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office finally eliminated this dangerous nuisance.
